LeeAnn’s background as an award-winning reporter and producer in CNN’s documentary and investigative unit greatly informed her work as writer and archivist for When Wire Was King (WWWK). LeeAnn’s reputation for thoroughness, tenacity, and creativity began over 25 years ago, when she worked as a freelance reporter covering East Africa, before joining CNN’s Washington, D.C. bureau. Now a well-respected freelance video producer and journalist, LeeAnn co-directed, co-produced, and wrote the groundbreaking 2017 documentary My Dear Children with WWWK colleague Cliff Hackel. LeeAnn has also shared her knowledge and expertise with the next generation of reporters by teaching broadcast journalism at George Mason University. |
Wendy Leonard, Ph.D., MPH
An award-winning and internationally recognized expert medical writer, Wendy has been using her gift for translating scientific and medical jargon into lay-friendly language (with her signature engaging, yet authoritative style) for over 25 years. Wendy is the author of multiple bestselling books – including a human anatomy book, a factopedia where she covers 23 fields of science, and a cardio-protective cookbook written in association with the NIH’s NHLBI. She’s written for network television, PSA radio spots for the NIH, countless medical education pieces for both print and video, and authored hundreds of articles in publications such as the NEJM and Scientific American. Inducted into the National Press Club in 1994, Wendy’s passion is empowering her audiences with evidence-based science that resonates, rather than alienates. She is a member of the American Public Health Association, 500 Women Scientists DC, and resides in the Agricultural Reserve, outside of Washington, D.C. |
